Ghanaian Textiles from Kente to Wax Prints

A visual presentation with UCSD scholar Boatema Boateng, PhD about Ghanaian textiles that include kente “prestige cloth,” adinkra funeral cloth, and the wax prints originally introduced by the Dutch from Indonesia and now regarded as “African” fabric. Dr. Boateng will describe the historical processes by which these became socially important Ghanaian textiles, and their uses in clothing and quilting in Ghana and the U.S.
